To show a solid color instead of a product photo, choose One Color for the swatch. The place to change it depends on whether you use separate products in a group or variants of one product.
Change a swatch in a product group
For a manually editable group:
Open the group in Product groups.
Find the product and option you want to change.
Choose a swatch type beside that product, such as One Color instead of Product image.
Choose the color or upload the image for that type.
Select Save.

For One Color or Two Colors, use the color picker or enter a six-digit hex color such as #8B4513. For Custom image, upload a PNG, JPG, JPEG, or SVG file.
For a group managed by an automation, check the automation's swatch settings rather than assuming it follows the manual editing steps.
Use a different Shopify product image
For product-group swatches using Product image or Image with text, you can choose which image position to use:
Open Settings > Product groups.
Set Product image position to the image number you want, such as
2for the second image.Select Save.
This applies across your store's product-image swatches. If a product does not have an image at that position, its featured image is used. To choose a specific cropped image for an individual swatch, use Custom image instead.
Change colors or images for variant options
Open Variant swatches.
Set the option's Swatch Style to Color or image.
Select Configure beside that option.
For each value, choose One Color, Two Colors, or Custom image.
Choose the color or upload the image.
Select Save.
If a value is Unassigned, it does not have a color or custom image yet and can appear as text on the product page. Assigning the swatch changes that visual representation; it does not rename the Shopify option value.
Variant swatch assignments apply across products using that option and value. For example, configuring Brown under Color can affect several products, not just the product you are viewing on your storefront.
To use the variants' Shopify images instead, choose Variant image as the option's Swatch Style. Manage those images on the product's variants in Shopify. The Product image position setting for groups does not choose variant images.
Update a shared swatch
Settings > Swatches is the Swatches Library. Open a swatch there to edit its name, colors, image, or aliases, then select Save.
A Library edit updates every group and variant option value that uses that swatch. Check the swatch's Usage section before changing it if you only intend to change one product.
For a different appearance on one product in a manually editable group, use that product's swatch controls in the group instead of editing the shared Library swatch. For variants, first check whether the same option value is used on other products, because its assignment is shared.
Aliases let variant values with different names match one swatch. For example, a swatch named Grey can also have Gray as an alias. Renaming a Library swatch does not rename your Shopify variant values.
